5th February:
Joseph De Piro’s devotion to St Agatha
During the
Diocesan Process of the Cause of Canonisation of
Joseph De Piro, the Ecclesiastical Tribunal
asked several persons to say whatever they knew
about the Servant of God. Among those who
testified there was Fr Augustine Grech, one of
the first members of the Society founded by Mgr
De Piro on 30th June 1910. As regards the
Founder’s devotion to St Agatha, Grech said
this:
“During meals
he used to ask us whether we had dreamt
anything. Once he shared with us his own
dream. He was on a big ship and there were
many people from various nations on it. At
one moment the propeller stopped. The
Founder himself went down into the engine
room to fix the machines. As he was there a
lady came near him and told him to go up
again; she wanted to do all the work
herself. Suddenly the ship started moving
again. The Founder said that the lady was St
Agatha.”
